Plowbreak Farm, Hector NY

Plowbreak Farm is a diversified vegetable farm committed to community, good food and sustainability.

We're Aaron Munzer and Kara Cusolito, Plowbreak's owners and farmers. Since 2012, we have been feeding people throughout New York State (and beyond) from our farm which sits atop the hills of Seneca Lake.

We're a USDA Certified Organic Farm, and the food we harvest from our fifty acres (ten cultivated) and nine high tunnels is never sprayed with synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. We work to promote healthy soils and a thriving ecosystem around our farm with cover cropping, habitat plantings, compost-based fertility and reduced tillage.

We’ve received a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service to plant 11 of our 40 acres to milkweed and other pollinator habitat species next spring under their Conservation Stewardship Program. We’re super jazzed about it. We’re harvesting seed for it. But the program is likely to be defunded in the next Farm Bill which means other farmers may not be able to benefit from these types of conservation-minded programs in the future. Policy affects small farms, and your vote for candidates who prioritize a healthy environment, small diversified family farms and local business really matters. Find those people and get out there in two weeks to vote for them in the mid-terms!
