This is our first pickup day! Welcome to our CSA and thank you for supporting our farm. It really means a lot to us.
Spring planting season ended yesterday here, so now we're moving on to full-on weeding and harvesting! This morning's rain kept your produce crisp and clean till we got it into the cooler.
During the week we post pictures and updates on the farm Facebook page, so 'like' us if you'd like to see what we're up to!
Anyways, tonight is our first pick-up at the Westy! We'll be there from 5 till 8 with a market-style stand out in the beer garden. Bring reusable bags. We will also have one Plowbreak Farm bag for each share (surprise!), screen printed by Kaleb, Edith and Abe of Standard Art Supply on Seneca Street.
Monday on-farm pick-ups and Tuesday Emmy's pick-ups start next week. See you guys then!
Please look over our member guide before tonight's pick-up. Our free choice model allows you to take what you and your family need for fresh eating that week. If you're having people over for dinner, plan for that. But please don't plan to give fresh produce to friends or neighbors.
Also, reminder that if you're splitting a share with someone you don't live with, please either coordinate to come together or have one person pick up for both people. It eliminates a lot of confusion, especially later in the season when you're picking up up to 30 different types of vegetables!
A note on keeping produce fresh: the crisper drawer is your friend! Keep all leafy greens and root veggies in breathable plastic bags or containers in this drawer, if possible. We also like to stick a folded-up paper towel in bags of salads to absorb any excess water and keep the greens from getting soggy. If you leave any greens out in your refrigerator, they'll become wilty overnight and you won't want to eat them because they won't look nice. Sometimes this happens to us and we feel like bad farmers, don't let it happen to you!
So, we hope you've cleaned our your refrigerators! Here's what you'll be getting this week:
sweet salad turnips (white and some red)radishes (two varieties!)spring onions lettuce (red and iceberg)arugula (baby and bunched)bunched herbs (oregano and sage)sorrelAsian greens salad mixkalemustard raab stored carrots
Thanks, and we'll see you tonight!
